Still for all of that, this did manage to capture the darker tone of the 70s Marvel heroes. Much more cynical, but hopeful toward the end. Not a bad followup, but I couldn't help but miss Ross. A sequel to the marvelous earlier "Marvels", which retells many of the major events in the Marvel universe through the eyes of Philip Sheldon, a freelance photographer who recorded many of those events, and became part of some of them. This book continues that storyline, with a recurring theme about humanity alternately cheering and fearing the Marvels. The most compelling part of the book comes near the end, with the return of Maggie, the little mutant girl (now grown) whom Phil and his family sheltered during the height of the anti-mutant hysteria in the first book. Not as groundbreaking as the first book, and the artwork does not rise to the level of Alex Ross' (Hell, whose does?) - but this is a good, moving story told through the eyes of an ordinary decent man, a rare thing in the Marvel universe. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

At last! A new printing of the long-awaited sequel to the award-winning publishing sensation that made Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross into stars! News photographer Phil Sheldon's back, with the man-on-the-street's perspective on the big events of the Marvel Universe, from the Avengers, the all-new X-Men and the Secret Wars to Dracula and the Werewolf By Night. But this time, Phil's world is going to be rocked not just by super-heroes and super-villains - but by something far more personal, as well. Featuring the Marvel debut of artist Jay Anacleto, whose gorgeous, photo-realistic pencil renderings give a new look at the Marvel Universe, and what it would be like to actually be there.
