Excerpt from Grafton's Chronicle, or History of England, Vol. 2 of 2: To Which Is Added His Table of the Bailiffs, Sheriffs, and Mayors, of the City of London, From the Year 1189, to 1558, InclusiveAfter this victory, king Edwards returned to Yorke, where, in despite of the Erle of Northumbcrlande, which then lurked in the realme of Scotlirnde, he created syr Iohn Neuell, Lorde Montacute, Erle of Northumbcrlaude, and in reproofe of Iasper Erle of Penbroke, he created William Lord Herbert Erle of the same place: but after when by mediacion of friends the Erle of Northumberlaude, was reconciled to his fauor, he re stored byur fully to his possessions, name, and dignity: and not intending therby to dimy nish the honor of his friend, he preferred sir Iohn Neue], to the stile of Marques, Mounta cute, so by that meanes, he was in estate and degree higher, then the Erle of vvar wicke his elder brother, but in power, pollecie and possessions, farre baser and lower.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
