Language Arts. Self-Improvement. Nonfiction. Humor (Nonfiction.) HTML:The legendary comedian, actor, and writer of Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, and A Fish Called Wanda fame shares his key ideas about creativity: that it??s a learnable, improvable skill.
/> ??Many people have written about creativity, but although they were very, very clever, they weren't actually creative. I like to think I'm writing about it from the inside.???John Cleese

You might think that creativity is some mysterious, rare gift??one that only a few possess. But you??d be wrong. As John Cleese shows in this short, practical, and often amusing guide, creativity is a skill that anyone can acquire.

Drawing on his lifelong experience as a writer, Cleese shares his insights into the nature of creativity and offers advice on how to get your own inventive juices flowing. What do you need to do to get yourself in the right frame of mind? When do you know that you??ve come up with an idea that might be worth pursuing? What should you do if you think you??ve hit a brick wall?

We can all be more creative.

A book with good intentions, but rather thin for anyone who has already read de Bono, or van Oech, or Michalko (or, indeed, the collection of Cleese's "Professor at Large" lectures). ( )

This is a very short book that is predominantly about the creative process for writing but there are some good tidbits for creativity in general, in particular that sometimes playing with an idea and taking time to make a decision often results in better ideas evolving. ( )

A very short book about encouraging a creative practice. Focused mainly on writing, it could also have uses in other artistic pursuits.

Some might say it is far too short, but it embraces what it is. There's very little filler (such as you might see in other books of its kind), it is to the point, and the few instructions it gives are direct and easy to implement.

I'll put this on my permanent shelf next to Austin Kleon and Twlya Tharp. ( )

A great little book on how to awaken your inner creativity. A catalyst rather than instruction book. ( )

For aspiring creatives, this is the One. The one guide that covers, in one audio hour, all the suggestions and recommendations of the longer, stuffier tomes. Plainly spoken, good advice and commonsense encouragement. ( )

By creativity, I simply mean new ways of thinking about things.

If you find the notion of borrowing like this a bit dodgy, look up a fellow called Shakespeare. He stoe all his plots, and then wrote rather creatively.
