Romance realisme magis. Semacam art book 3D dengan surat, amplop dan kartu pos betulan. Pendek, baru baca sedikit tiba-tiba bersambung, dan perkembangan plotnya agak diburu-buru buatku. Tapi 4/5 experiencenya. Opening each letter made me giddy. The excitement was a mixture of opening a letter for myself and peaking at someone's belonging when I should've never. And they're all freaking pretty! ( )

Bantock's book is part epistolary, part picture book, and sheer cleverness. Strictly speaking, this is 48 pages of correspondence between Griffin & Sabine in the form of postcards and letters with only two sentences of additional prose on the final pages of the book. Despite this, it reads as a warm and rich novel with the illustrations serving as the background. Batock is very detailed - down to the stamp designs - in creating this full world that Griffin and Sabine inhabit in these brief pages.

An easily re-readable book as one will constantly find new items to ponder in the artwork. ( )

This book was given to me as a gift. I thought it was some trendy book people got excited about a few years ago. Then I read it and realized why people liked it so much. The envelopes and letters make the story experiential. Intimate. It would not have worked so well had the writing been poor, but Bantock chooses his words carefully and in a way neither contrived nor typical. He reminds us how supremely meaningful it is to put pen to paper and pour out one's soul in a letter and how mere words can be powerful enough to create and sustain love. The story itself evokes such feeling even a firm cynic might soften a bit. Beautifully done. ( )
