2567 Washington: Village and Capital, 1800-1878, by Constance McLaughlin Green (read 13 Jan 1994) (Pulitzer History prize in 1963) While I lived in Washington in my law school days, that is a while ago and this book did not hold my interest too well. Washington was a squalid place for much of the period covered by this book, and the book paid only passing attention to the political scene--which has always been what interested me most about Washington.
