In the midst of deadlines, car pools, and breakfast dishes, it can be tempting to push aside your longing for intimate friendships. Why add something else to your schedule-and be hurt or disappointed again? Yet it seems that even in the busyness and struggles of life, we cannot ignore our ache to know kindred spirits. In The Friendships of Women, Dee Brestin encourages you to listen to your need for friendships and to find and strengthen those relationships. Relying on key biblical stories, Dee explores what the story of Ruth teaches us about "rapport talk," how Luke celebrates the power of women's intuition, and what we can learn about avoiding unhealthy dependency from one of the most significant friendships in the Old Testament. With a passion borne from an intense belief in the power of friendship, Dee guides your relationships to new levels of intimacy and trust. Engaging, honest, and deeply personal, The Friendships of Women will inspire you to see your desire for friendship not as a burden but as a gift.… (plus d'informations)

Do you long:
For kindred spirit friends?
For deeper friendships?
To overcome the pain in your friendships?
In the foreward to this best-selling classic, Priscilla Shirer writes:

Like a carefully crafted piece of art or a delicately woven tapestry, this wonderful book has stood the test of time. It's deeply biblical, thought-provoking truths have touched hundreds
of thousands of women just like me who want to understand friendships, be on guard for its perils, become prepared for its challenges, and be recipients of its blessings.

This book was written back in 1988, and it honestly reminded me a little of an older, Christian version of [b:Friendships Don't Just Happen!: The Guide to Creating a Meaningful Circle of GirlFriends|15807356|Friendships Don't Just Happen! The Guide to Creating a Meaningful Circle of GirlFriends|Shasta Nelson|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1344733451s/15807356.jpg|21531844], though I liked that one a little better, I think.

I enjoyed reading about women's friendships from a Christian perspective, but I didn't learn much that was new from this book. Also, there were a few pieces that didn't seem to fit into the purpose of the book. For example, when talking about David and Jonathan's friendship, the author goes on a bit of a tangent to try and prove that both men were right-brained. One, does that really matter? And two, it can't be proven anyway, considering they've both been dead a long time!

Overall, this book fell a little flat for me. I'm glad I only paid 26 cents for it at a thrift shop. :) ( )

This book was excellent. It uses Biblical examples of friendship as well as personal experiences of other women to point out strengths and weaknesses of friendships. It also talks about ways to strengthen friendships. ( )

I feel like it took me a long time to finish this book and I'm not sure why. Perhaps there were points that God wanted me to ponder for a certain time or perhaps there were parts that He knew would make more sense to me if I waited a time to read that chapter. There were some hard parts to read and some parts that confirmed what I'd done in past relationships was correct, even if painful. I found it read faster if I skipped the Bible Study parts at the end of each chapter. ( )
