Bestselling author Linda Lael Miller's beloved novel of the American West shimmers with the unbridled passion of two adventurous hearts brought together first by dire convenience and second by blooming attraction. When a woman has to choose between death and marriage to a total stranger, she must be in a dire predicament... And for Jolie McKibben, about to pay by hanging for a terrible crime she didn't commit, salvation by marriage couldn't come a moment too soon. Housekeeping for Daniel Beckham, a widower who invoked the town's wedding ordinance to rescue Jolie from the gallows, is better than the alternative...but understanding the silent stranger who is now her husband might just about kill her. Daniel doesn't believe in Jolie's innocence. And despite his willingness to marry the pretty, defiant "outlaw" on the spot, the prosperous farmer had little to say to her after "I do." But for Jolie, their arrangement of convenience soon deepens into a rich and vibrant attraction that sets her trembling with desire in Daniel's presence. Somehow, she would win his love, body and soul. Unless the desperados on her trail shatter the fragile, trusting bond of husband and wife...… (plus d'informations)

The blurb sounded fun - a man saves a woman from hanging because he marries her. So it starts out fine. Jolie is a bit of an airhead, hanging out with two bank robbers (though, to be fair she didn't know, but why was a young woman traveling with two men anyway). Daniel is still hung up on Ilsa, his first wife, and only saves Jolie to houseclean and have sex until he tires of her. Jolie falls in insta-lust calling it love, but Daniel doesn't reciprocate until the very end of the book (the love, not the lust - he's pretty much in lust with her from the beginning).
Meanwhile, Jolie makes bad decision after bad decision, and Daniel has to clean up the mess every time. I did have some sympathy for him, though he's mostly a gruff irascible man who can't seem to move on with his life. The story, what there was of it in between sex scenes, was unrealistic. A woman is weaned from opium addiction in one week, the bank robbers keep hanging around despite the chance they'll get caught, and two orphan kids show up conveniently though Daniel keeps threatening to send them away. It was a lot, and most of it was not very coherent, with Daniel and Jolie fighting and then having makeup sex for most of the book. So, not a book for me. ( )

Very good marriage of convenience story. I liked how the whole story wasn't about when they would sleep together but rather them learning to adjust to each other and fall in love. The plot held together very well and the book gave a good flavor of the times. Well written believable characters. ( )

Jolie is in a little trouble. She going to die if she doe not marry a man. Though the town people say she a part of the gang that stole money is she part of it or not. She must prove them that she did not have anything to do with the robbery.

Daniel comes along and saves her by saying he will marry her. He save her from being hung, Though he does he has his own troubles and struggles with losing his wife and unborn child. He also loss a daughter (I think) though not complete sure. It been a while since i read it.

Things start happening and getting interesting throughout the story. Can they work though it or do they break the marriage. Do they find the money that been stolen? Read it to find out. ( )
