"Charming... Four interconnected visits to a world of danger, wit, beauty and genuine romance. Treat yourself!"â??ANNE PERRY, internationally bestselling author

A stellar line-up of historical mystery novelists weaves the tale of a priceless and cursed gold watch as it passes through time wreaking havoc from one owner to another. As the hours and years pass, the characters are irrevocably linked by fate, each playing a key role in breaking the curse and destroying the watch once and for all.

From 1733 Italy to Edinburgh in 1831 to a series of chilling murders in 1870 London, and a lethal game of revenge decades later, the watch touches lives with misfortune, until it comes into the reach of one young woman who might be able to stop it for good.

As much a book of curses as a book of destinies, The Deadly Hours is a breathtaking anthology rich with atmosphere and intrigue that encapsulates the exquisite destruction, heartbreak, and redemption wrought by fate.

This outstanding collaboration of authors includes:
  • Susanna Kearsley - New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of compelling time slip fiction.
  • C.S. Harris - USA Today bestselling author of the Sebastian St. Cyr Regency mystery series.
  • Anna Lee Huber - award-winning author of the national bestselling Lady Darby Mysteries.
  • Christine Trent - author of the Lady of Ashes Victorian mystery series.
  • More praise for The Deadly Hours:

I read this for the Lady Darby story, and I don't regret it, but it wasn't as good as the full books are, so you'd probably be fine skipping it in the series honestly. But it wasn't bad. The writing in the Kearsley story was probably the most intriguing to me, though not wonderful, but I likely would have enjoyed it more if I had read the previous stories involving those characters. The Trent one was a little tiresome to me, it could be partly the length, but it didn't tempt me to try the rest of the series. And I've enjoyed the St Cyr series by Harris, but this short story was pretty average IMO. ( )

Uneven for me, but I really liked the Lady of Ashes story (https://amzn.to/3hVVEq9) and I was glad to read all of them since together they resolve the curse and overarching mystery.

Four stories, each by a different author, and that move through the history of a certain cursed watch. Because each story jumps forward in time by decades or centuries, there are no recurring characters or plot elements so there's no chance of contradiction between stories. Thus, it should have worked better - and perhaps it did, if you are a romance fan. I expected a mystery. ( )

I borrowed this anthology for Susanna Kearsley’s novella Weapon of Choice, which is set in 1733 and features a couple of characters from A Desperate Fortune (along with a couple of couples from a couple of her other novels). It has a different sort of plot from her other stories -- there’s no newly developing romance, and no contemporary storyline -- but it was interesting to see Hugh’s marriage from his perspective.

I glanced at the first pages of the other novellas and the only one which caught my attention enough to read was Siren’s Call by C.S. Harris, a murder mystery set during WWII.
