Full review can be found here: https://nordie.wordpress.com/2020/11/26/book-review-spellbreaker-by-charlie-m-ho... This book took me a while to get into. It was slow at the beginning. I almost gave up on it, but it got better around the one hundred page mark. I loved the dynamic between Elsie and Bacchus. That was definitely my favorite part. The explanation of the magic and world was a bit info dumpy at the beginning, so I didn’t really like that. And finally, I did not see that plot twist coming, but it definitely made the book better. Even though I gave this book a mediocre rating, I’ll still probably pick up the sequel so I can see what happens between Elsie and Bacchus mostly haha. Intersting magic concept in a kind of english victorian setting. The MC is can dismantle spells and does this in secret as she is not an approved spellbreaker. A bit of a mystery kind of story. Starting strong but couldn't keep the pace and when the novelty of the world was gone there was not enough new stuff to keep me interested. Duology set in an alternate world in Victorian England where magic is heavily regulated. A young woman uses her illegal magic to make life better for the poor and disadvantaged. A young man sails from Barbados to London to complete his training and master a specific spell. The two collide and fall into romance despite race and class differences. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

She'll help Bacchus fix unruly spells around his estate if he doesn't turn her in. Working together, Elsie's trust in--and fondness for--the handsome stranger grows. So does her trepidation about the rise in the murders of wizards and the theft of the spellbooks their bodies leave behind. For a rogue spellbreaker like Elsie, there's so much to learn about her powers, her family, the intriguing Bacchus, and the untold dangers shadowing every step of a journey she's destined to complete. But will she uncover the mystery before it's too late to save everything she loves?"--Provided by publisher. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
