AR: 2.9 A tiny, caterpillar hatches from a egg on a warm Sunday morning. The caterpillar is very hungry. The caterpillar eats its way through many healthy and unhealthy foods. Each day he eats through a different food item. Each day after eating through the healthy foods he remains hungry. After the caterpillar eats through the unhealthy foods he does not feel good. The final day, Sunday, he eats through a nice, big, healthy, leaf. The caterpillar felt much better after eating healthy and now he was full. He builds a cocoon and stays in it for a couple of weeks. The caterpillar turns into a beautiful butterfly! -Great book to teach young readers the days of the week. Also, great book to teach young readers why eating healthy is so good for humans and animals and shows examples of some healthy/unhealthy food choices. Summery: The Very Hungry Caterpillar eats his way through the days of the week until he turns into a butterfly! Personal: I really enjoyed this book as a kid. I thought is was funny how the caterpillar ate his way through the book. Each hole growing like the caterpillar. Classroom: This book can be used to teach the days of the week. It can also be used to explain how caterpillars turn into butterflies. This book is about a caterpillar that is very hungry. He eats through one apple on day 1, then two pears on day 2, and so on. On the 6th day he eats through a lot of different stuff. On the 7th day he eats through a leaf. Then he turns into a butterfly. This book would be a great book to read to children if the class was going to have a caterpillar that turns into butterfly. It could also be used to teach counting and colors.
