Presenting The Pilgrim's Progress, The Life and Death of Mr. Badman, and Grace Abounding to the Chief of Sinners by John Bunyan with illustrations by Nicholas Tamblyn and Katherine Eglund. This collection is part of The Great Books Series by Golding Books. Foremost among the works of inspiring Christian fiction, The Pilgrim's Progress is a spiritual novel unlike any other, a deeply religious and allegorical novel that has remained an influential and vital work concerning Christianity and the Christian's place in the world since it was first written. The Life and Death of Mr. Badman depicts a religious conversation that further discusses the themes of The Pilgrim's Progress, for which it is a companion piece; and Grace Abounding to the Chief of Sinners is a work of Christian autobiography that is just as inspiring and significant in its meaning as the other books of fiction by its author. John Bunyan was born in Elstow, England; he is known to have been baptized on 30 November 1628. The author of nearly sixty titles (a number of them expanded sermons), he is best remembered today for the Christian allegory The Pilgrim's Progress. After the restoration--when the freedom of nonconformists was restricted--Bunyan was arrested and spent the next 12 years in jail as he refused to give up preaching. While in jail he wrote a spiritual autobiography, Grace Abounding to the Chief of Sinners, and began work on The Pilgrim's Progress, which was published years after his release. Bunyan died of a fever while visiting a friend in London in 1688. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
