"In 1913, on a summer's day at Half Moon Lake, Louisiana, four-year-old Sonny Davenport walks into the woods and never returns. The boy's mysterious disappearance from the family's lake house makes front-page news in their home town of Opelousas. John Henry and Mary Davenport are wealthy and influential, and will do anything to find their son. For two years, the Davenports search across the South, offer increasingly large rewards and struggle not to give in to despair. Then, at the moment when all hope seems lost, the boy is found in the company of a tramp. But is he truly Sonny Davenport? The circumstances of his discovery raise more questions than answers. And when Grace Mill, an unwed farm worker, travels from Alabama to lay claim to the child, newspapers, townsfolk, even the Davenports' own friends, take sides. As the tramp's kidnapping trial begins, and two desperate mothers fight for ownership of the boy, the people of Opelousas discover that truth is more complicated than they'd ever dreamed"--… (plus d'informations)

I thought the author wrote a heart wrenching story that grabbed and held every mother that read this book. However the characters that were the heart of the story didn’t seem to be very well developed and these were the people that were going to make or break this story. The ending just fell short and the story felt incomplete. I realize that this was based on an actual event… the kidnapping of Bobby Dunbar…and I know sometimes real events don’t have real clear conclusions like fictional stories... but the reader was allowed to become entirely invested in these people and then was just left hanging. There are so many different conclusions that the story could have come to. It was too bad that it continued with deceit to the very end…still it was still a very worthwhile read. ( )

How can I say that i thoroughly enjoyed a book based on a true story, that involves kidnapping? Ok, I will say that i was drawn in by the writing of Alexander. She puts you right there in the 1913 south, with its racial disregard, the social castes, and false kindness that still exists today.
Sonny Davenport, the character meant to represent the actual Bobby Dunbar, can not be found while on a family vacation. Lost. Alone. Panic sets in.
Long story short, 'a boy' is found and is claimed by Sonny's parents as their son. But is he? Another mother becomes embroiled in the fantastic stories and lies- heartbroken. As i was when the book ended, more-so because it IS a part of our history. ( )

LOST BOY FOUND by Kristen Alexander
Based on a true story this novel follows a family after their 4 year old son goes missing. The family, wealthy and socially important, leaves no stone unturned in their search for the child. Two years later, a child is found in the company of a supposed tramp. Is this the missing child? Why does this tramp have this child? The family believes the child is their missing Sonny and uses every means to keep him. But then there is the other mother who also claims the child. Who is this child? And what happened to Sonny?
Well written. Contains a reading group guide. Lots of things to talk, or think, about here.
