Edie-smart, self-assured, beautiful-always worked hard. She worked as a teller at a bank, she worked to save her first marriage, and later, she worked to raise her daughter even as her second marriage came apart. Really, Edie just wanted a good life, but everywhere she turned, her looks defined her. Two brothers fought over her. Her second husband became unreasonably possessive and jealous. Her daughter resented her. And now, as a grandmother, Edie finds herself harassed by a younger man. It's been a lifetime of proving that she is allowed to exist in her own sphere. The Lives of Edie Pritchard tells the story of one woman just trying to be herself, even as multiple men attempt to categorize and own her.… (plus d'informations)

This is a great read! Captivating generational tale. ( )

The Lives of Edie Pritchard is the story of a strong independent Montana woman. She is beautiful but refuses to let this define her. The book is divided into three parts: Edie is first a wife and a bank teller, later a mom and wife again, and eventually, a grandmother.

I liked all three timelines, the first which did a great job of introducing Edie and the Linderman brothers, one of whom was her husband, Dean, the other, his twin, Roy. I appreciated seeing Edie grow as a person over time and enjoyed her interactions with her granddaughter, Lauren.

The characters are well-written as are the family dynamics, small town vibes, and other relationships in this multigenerational story. The vivid descriptions of western life in Montana were also fitting. ( )

Back through the town of Bentrock, Montana, the same town that Watson's "Montana 1948: A Novel" featured. That scandal from that story is even mentioned on page 18 of this book! But this book is about Edie - three sections about three different parts of her life. It's very well written and character driven. But, I disliked all of the characters in it, Roy most of all. He is an awful person, reprehensible and without morals whatsoever. But no one in this story is very good, so the fact that he stood out to me as the worst, really says something!

Still, it's a good read, but not as good as "Montana, 1948'. And I really liked the climactic ending in part three in Edie's apartment! Very intense! Solidifies my status as a new Larry Watson fan! ( )

Don't like to say it, but this book left me flat. I've enjoyed other books Larry wrote but not this one. Can't pin it down to any one thing, maybe it's not the right book for this time? But I can't recommend it and don't know that I"ll try it again just in case I'd like it more later on. ( )
