It was so wonderful to be back at Wayside!

I read this to my nieces, and one declared she liked this one even better than the first book in the series (her favorite).

I loved all the references to the previous books: goozack, Mrs. Gorf, Miss Zarves, even Louis the yard teacher saying that he had some money because he'd written a few books about Wayside School.

We all hope he writes a few more! ( )

This book was exactly the nostalgic balm that my soul needed. I'm a huge fan of the original books, and listened to this one on audio (narrated skillfully by the author) this morning on a difficult day. I loved it; it did not disappoint. ( )

The Wayside School series is one of my favorite childhood reads. This fourth installment has the same characters, with their same quirks, and the school operates in the same wacky spirit. Happy to see that my favorite characters are still their old selves. The largest story arc in the book is the Cloud of Doom looming over Wayside School. With this uncertainty clouding over them, Louis, Miss Mush, Ms. Jewls and her students responded in their silly ways, but also communicating the value of hope, resilience, friendship, and creativity. I think it's an appropriate message for the year 2020. ( )
