Un roman dont le résumé semblait promettre une ambiance à la «Rebecca»... avec une touche de culture mexicaine!
Ce n'est pas tout à fait ça. Pour l'ambiance, oui, on sent l'inspiration (ou l'aspiration). Par contre, Silvia Moreno-Garcia, une auteure que je n'avais jamais lue, n'a pas su m'entrainer dans l'angoisse comme peut le Daphné Du Maurier.
L'histoire se déroule bien au Mexique dans les années 50, mais dans une maison construite par une famille anglaise, à l'anglaise. Les liens avec le Mexique s'arrêtent là. Dans ce grand manoir sombre et glauque, habité par une famille tout aussi obscure, il se passe toutes sortes de phénomènes étranges.
L'explication finale tient un peu plus du roman d'horreur que du roman gothique. J'ai eu du plaisir à lire, mais sans plus! ( )
