For fans of Sadie and Serial, this "gloriously twisty" (BuzzFeed) thriller follows two teens whose lives become inextricably linked when one confesses to murder and the other becomes determined to uncover the real truth no matter the cost.
What happened to Zoe won't stay buried...

When Anna Cicconi arrives to the small Hamptons village of Herron Mills for a summer nanny gig, she has high hopes for a fresh start. What she finds instead is a community on edge after the disappearance of Zoe Spanos, a local girl who has been missing since New Year's Eve. Anna bears an eerie resemblance to Zoe, and her mere presence in town stirs up still-raw feelings about the unsolved case. As Anna delves deeper into the mystery, stepping further and further into Zoe's life, she becomes increasingly convinced that she and Zoe are connected—and that she knows what happened to her.

Two months later, Zoe's body is found in a nearby lake, and Anna is charged with manslaughter. But Anna's confession is riddled with holes, and Martina Green, teen host of the Missing Zoe podcast, isn't satisfied. Did Anna really kill Zoe? And if not, can Martina's podcast uncover the truth?

Inspired by Daphne du Maurier's Rebecca, Kit Frick weaves an electrifying story of psychological suspense that twists and turns until the final page.

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review here and on my blog Samwise Reviews. I started this book feeling pretty unsure, and I ended up loving it. The story switches timelines between Then and Now and it took me a while to get used to that and remember what was going on. The holes in Anna’s memory were both exciting and frustrating; I was able to guess one of the surprises around the ending but not any of the others. There were a number of loose ends around the ¾ mark, and I was mostly happy with how they were all wrapped up by the end. The final confession did seem a bit too easy, but it wasn’t a completely unlikely scenario. While being slightly frustrating at times, I still found the book hard to put down and I stayed up late to finish it. This also met the "Written In First Person" part of my 2020 reading challenge. I am a little on the fence on how to review this book, so I will try to make it brief and as honest as I can after all the target audience is for teens so that can also be why it wasn't a 5 star for me.

It is a mystery and it is true to that genre, however at some points it did kind of drag for me but I think it's more so to the writing style. Now don't misunderstand I think the author did a good job in her writing style and keeping the mystery going but for my personal preference it was not exactly top tier for me. The aspects of the podcast portion of the book sometimes was distracting and pulled me away and other times it made me keep wanting to find out what happened to Zoey and absolutely how Anna is connected to the whole thing. I give it a 4 out of 5 star for it's mystery, story line and the intrigue of the characters.
If you enjoy crime, mystery, and podcast this book is definitely for you and if you like audiobooks definitely check that out as well I read the physical book but I also listened to the audiobook and the narrator did a great job. ( )

*I would give this book 4.5 stars for review*

I really wound up enjoying this read. This book was nice mix between a mystery, mistake identity and podcast elements. I also liked that this book had two different timelines. I also liked that this book had various POV. It was super fast pace read and one that I had hard time putting down. I thought the unreliable character of anna made the story so fun to read. I also thought the twists were hard to predict. I sometimes struggled a tad with the pacing of the story but overall def a new fav thriller. ( )

A random pick from the 'available now audio' list on the library app as I needed some background listening. Reminiscent of the YA/thriller books I read as a YA, in a charming way. If I rated it back then, probably pretty high. Rating it now, maybe a 3, it was distracting for the day and I will pretty much forget it.
