Freshly dumped for being “too boring” Lily decides to be adventurous via a one night stand and Nick is seemingly the perfect man for it. But what if that one night isn’t the last time they ever see each other? It’s a solid story, so much so that it could have benefited from a slightly larger page count. Nick’s arc, an extreme shift from one way of life to another probably would have been even more convincing had there been a little more time for him to make such a drastic transition. And while the author sprinkled in some getting to know you moments, I really would have liked a handful more to further establish who they are individually as well as what a relationship between them would look like beyond the steamier side of their connection. If this expanded from a novella into a novel it certainly would have been able to dig into things more, but if holiday stress has you eager for a superquick fluffy read with fun family scenes and plenty of food references, this might provide just the distraction you crave. A Match Made for Thanksgiving is the first novel(la) in the Holidays with the Wongs series by Jackie Lau. Plot: Nick Wong loves the big city life in Toronto, especially being able to meet new women all the time and taking them back to his penthouse. One of these women is Lily Tseng who just got out of a relationship and is trying to not take things so seriously for now. But after Nick and Lily part in the morning, they are both still thinking about each other – without knowing that the other is in the same position. When Nick returns home for Thanksgiving, he finds that his parents have set him and his siblings up on blind dates for the night. And Lily is one of those dates – meant for his brother Greg. But having Lily walk into his life for a second time, Nick is not willing to let her go again. A Match Made for Thanksgiving was a quick, sweet read that knows what tropes are for and uses them well. A word of warning, though: do not read it while hungry. Read more on my blog: https://kalafudra.com/2021/03/19/a-match-made-for-thanksgiving-jackie-lau/ aucune critique | ajouter une critique

HTML: A Thanksgiving rom-com with lots of food and interfering family! Advertising executive Nick Wong enjoys living in Toronto. He loves late nights partying and taking women back to his penthouse. And so it is with great reluctance that he returns to his boring hometown of Mosquito Bay for Thanksgiving. This year, however, is even worse than usual. His parents and grandparents, frustrated with the lack of weddings in the family, have invited blind dates for him and his three siblings. Nick's brother Greg has been set up with Lily Tseng, who just so happens to be Nick's latest one-night stand, the one he can't get out of his mind. Although Nick has never been interested in settling down, Lily has him reconsidering. Perhaps he's good for more than a single night of sex, dumplings, and bubble tea after all. But first, he has to get through this painful weekend with his family and convince her that she should be with him, not Greg... .Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |

This was a sweet and sexy novella. I loved all the food mentioned in the book (preparing food, eating food and talking about food is a pillar of my personality). AND all the family! What a wonderful start to a series that I look forward to reading! ( )
