The second book by Linda Francis Lee was slow to interest me but I did eventually come to care for the characters. I wasn't sure if the author was trying to make "the knowing" as magical or just intuition. If it was supposed to be magic, I wasn't that into the idea. I have to say though that the author didn't make overuse of the idea within her plot. I felt for Portia that her ex-husband swindled her out of so much. I also know that there are commercial kitchen rules and zoning rules, though I'm not familiar with those in New York. If Portia spent as much time in her grandmother's restaurant as the book claims she did, she should know at least about commercial kitchen rules and have known that when she started making food for sale, her days were numbered before someone came to investigate.
I had what happened with the brother's and the girl backward from what happened. ( )
