Romantic comedy in the manga industry are a dime a dozen and as such comes in a multitude of varieties that a title really need to have some sort of twist to be able to hook the reader from the very beginning. With Pearl Pink, the story works from the angle of the 'childhood marriage promise'. The twist in this case is that instead of going with the usual cliche of one partner forgetting and the other still has that hidden flame, with Pearl Pink, we have an added zest here the promise was for the girl to stop crying and become stronger. The unforeseen consequences of this action led to the girl, 10 years later, coming back to woo her beloved ...as a tomboy.

Overall, this added twist really did not add much in grabbing the readers attention. However, whereas the romantic comedy comes out as a bit generic, the humor in this series is still plenty enjoyable. Somewhat slapstick in nature, it somehow adds a level of enjoyment where without it would have been a very forgettable series. ( )
