This book is simple enough, yet engaging enough for both primary and intermediate readers. It tells the author's memories of riding his bicycle to his grandmother's every Saturday to help her with landscaping her yard. Each Saturday, she sets aside special time during the day to make him food and teach him lessons in baking teacakes.
This story will connect with readers who enjoy spending time with their grandparents or have similar special memories with grandparents. Children who have an interest in baking may also enjoy hearing about the baking process through this story. ( )

This story is a memory a little boy has of his grandmother and the tradition that they always had when he was a kid. Before she passed away, he would always bike through the small town where he lived, down to his gradnma's house. Every Saturday he'd go to help her with things like mowing the grass and tending the garden, then she'd bake him some homemade tea cakes and he'd eat as many as he wanted and then bike back home. I love this book because I come from a small "everybody-knows-everybody" town like he did and have little traditions like this that I remember doing with my family members. Such a sweet read! And the illustrations are so adorable, they really warm my heart. ( )

This book captures what a saturday with grandma is like. They have done chores and talked and ate lunch and now it is time for something sweet. They decide to make teacakes, and the dough smells like cotton candy. The author uses very good imagery, like you can see the dough of the cakes being made. ( )

Fiction book. I would use this book for character identification and also for common noun, proper noun, and other grammar identifications.

Saturdays and Teacakes is a sweet story of a Grandson, who visits his Grandmother each story. The book depicts the young boy, who narrates the story as he travels on his bike to his Grandmother's house. He helps her in the garden and in the kitchen and she teaches him how to make cookies. This story is a simple depiction of a boy and his grandmother and the special day they spend together. The illustrations are detailed and have a calming effect with a cool color pallet and depictions of green fields and a cozy kitchen. After reading this book I am always get the urge to make cookies and call my Grandmother. ( )
