( ) “Grudge is a heavy thing to carry good thing we are extra strong” Told from the POVS of mother and daughter, Patty and RoseGold. Patty is in prison due to negligent child abuse. RoseGold relieves the past of her life. She was a very sickly child and had major digestive issues which now as just an adult she is bony and her teeth are rotten. Patty is in prison for causing her daughter’s extreme conditions. Now Patty is almost out of prison, what is RoseGold to do with her mother? She is her mothers child and revenge is a delicious treat. 4.5 Stars - I loved this dark take on the Dee Dee Blanchard case. I started reading this thinking maybe it would be a redemption book for Rose Gold— but I couldn’t have been more wrong. This was not about overcoming child abuse, this was about making someone pay for abusing you. Although I saw the twist coming, I was really happy I was right because it was so messed up. Although Rose Gold went way too far, I almost didn’t blame her (almost, bc she totally did take it too far)— I mean, everyone in this girl’s life shit all over her, she was bound to snap. I think the moral of this story is never underestimate anyone— you never know what people are capable of even if they seem a certain way on the outside. I'm curious to see if this will become an interesting contribution to the canon of sorts that includes BABY TEETH and WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN because although the roles are reversed, I found myself reminded of these the full way through. I didn't love this, but it was fascinatingly crafted and felt very realistic. The web drawn wasn't super surprising because all of the motivations were clear. Kept me entertained through a long layover! aucune critique | ajouter une critique

"In her compulsive, sharply-drawn debut, Stephanie Wrobel peels back the layers of the most complicated of mother-daughter relationships. For the first eighteen years of her life, Rose Gold Watts believed she was seriously ill. She was allergic to everything, used a wheelchair and practically lived at the hospital. Neighbors did all they could, holding fundraisers and offering shoulders to cry on, but no matter how many doctors, tests, or surgeries, no one could figure out what was wrong with Rose Gold. Turns out her mom, Patty Watts, was just a really good liar. After serving five years in prison, Patty gets out with nowhere to go and begs her daughter to take her in. The entire community is shocked when Rose Gold says yes. Patty insists all she wants is to reconcile their differences. She says she's forgiven Rose Gold for turning her in and testifying against her. But Rose Gold knows her mother. Patty Watts always settles a score. Unfortunately for Patty, Rose Gold is no longer her weak little darling... And she's waited such a long time for her mother to come home"-- Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
