After last volume's series highpoint, there's a big letdown as the students begin their second year at Totsuki Saryo Culinary Institute. In what almost feels like a soft reboot, they are in new roles with much bigger responsibilities. For a little comedic change of pace, the creator sends Soma and Megumi to a hot spring resort town to play detectives when an inn with a relationship to the school closes under mysterious circumstances. What seems like a one-off adventure actually reveals the set-up for the next story arc, and it is sort of silly.

A fun back-up story features female characters from Nisekoi: False Love, One Piece, Gin Tama, Assassination Classroom, Haikyu!!, and World Trigger undergoing some typical Food Wars fan service as they do a food tasting. ( )
