This is a very good adaptation of the first half-to-two-thirds of the first novel. I'm kind of interested in seeing how this goes once we get into book 2, as that's where I had some problems with Kyon's characterization. ( )

Kyon is just your regular freshman in high school who is looking forward to having the most normal, average year he can. That is until Naruhi Suzumiya shows up in his class. Haruhi is a strange but attractive girl who is obsessed with the supernatural. She starts off on the right foot by introducing herself to the class and telling them that if any of them are aliens, time travelers or espers they could be her friends, everyone else need not apply. Kyon is sucked into Haruhi's world when she forces him to join her club the SOS Brigade to search out mysterious people. The adventures continue from there.

This new manga which is based on the popular anime by the same name is a great adaptation. Although it follows the same storyline as the anime it moves much faster which for a distracted reader is a great advantage. ( )
