Introduction by the author/artist tells what stories of Tubman meant to him growing up. SUMMARY: This book was a poem describing Harriet Tubman's life. It begins with Harriet being born into slavery. Then it tells about Harriet having to continue to work very hard and continue to pray for strength to free her people. Her and her people marched at night and slept during the day. She said, "I'll be free or I'll be dead!" Then the chariot came and she rode the chariot into the promised land. REVIEW: This book would be a good book for students learning about Harriet Tubman. It in simple terms describes her significance to civil rights. Students can use this as a book to still learn, but an easier read than a reference book. It gives the big idea in simple terms. Also, it is not as graphic and harsh as some other books may be. I like the rhythm and flow of the text, it seems like it would be a good read-aloud. While they do help tell the story, some of the illustrations are a little creepy: proportions seem odd and some of the teeth look a bit jagged. I thought it was interesting that despite all of the bright color on the pages, my eye always went to the faces of the African-Americans, a great reminder of who this story (and Harriet Tubman) is all about. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
