In the story the author shares many examples of courage in our daily lives. The story will encourage you as a reader to interact with the book by relating to the different acts of courage in your own life.

The author does a great shop showing courage right off the bat with the cover. When you look at the front cover you will notice a boy standing on a diving board looking down to the water. His face is showing he is scared. You may be thinking No way would I do that! Or Wow that is a long drop! Your thoughts are probably very similar to those of the boy in the illustration. ( )

A look at various types of courage, both small and every day like standing up for someone being picked on, or large like being a police officer. ( )

Courage is a cute book that will show children that in fearful or scary times we need to have courage. It gave multiple different scenarios were a child might be scared and showed a picture of a child overcoming that fear.
Some of the examples given had two pictures, one to show that they were a little timid before and another to show that they had courage in the situation. I liked the way the pictures showed emotion even when the words did not always say it. ( )

This book could be used to show the many ways children can be nice, and have the courage to do the right thing. Everyday kinds that normal, ordinary people exhibit all the time, like “being the first to make up after an argument,” or “going to bed without a nightlight.” Bernard Waber explores the many varied kinds of courage and celebrates the moments, big and small, that bring out the hero in each of us. Age Range: 4 - 7 years
Grade Level: Preschool - 3

I enjoyed this book! Every sentence in this book starts with "courage is..." This could be a good lesson to discuss about what courage means, or even to use this book as mentor text when wanting to write about a specific emotion. It provides examples of many kinds of courage found in everyday life and unusual circumstances, from tasting the vegetable before making a face to having two candy bars and saving one for tomorrow.
