This is a very entertaining book, written in Journal form by Josephine Bonaparte. This is the second book in the trilogy, the first book covering the period of the Great Terror. This book covers the early years of Josephine's marriage to Napoleon Bonaparte , including Bonaparte's Campaigns in Italy and Egypt as his power base grows. It ends as he assumes power in France. You would think it would be stilted being in diary form, but the book works very well and gives a very interesting snapshot into Josephine's life and France during this tumultuous period. I look forward to reading the final part of this delightful series. ( ) The second Josephine B. book and my favourite of the three. While the story of Josephine's life of how to got to the point of meeting Napoleon, I find him to be the more interesting character so I liked the storyline of this book. I did find it hard to understand why he was so obsessed with her - Gulland could have explored that more. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

Tales of Passion, Tales of Woe is the much-awaited sequel to Sandra Gulland's highly acclaimed first novel, The Many Lives & Secret Sorrows of Josephine B. Beginning in Paris in 1796, the saga continues as Josephine awakens to her new life as Mrs. Napoleon Bonaparte. Through her intimate diary entries and Napoleon's impassioned love letters, an astonishing portrait of an incredible woman emerges. Gulland transports us into the ballrooms and bedrooms of exquisite palaces and onto the blood-soaked fields of Napoleon's campaigns. As Napoleon marches to power, we witness, through Josephine, the political intrigues and personal betrayals -- both sexual and psychological -- that result in death, ruin, and victory for those closest to her.
