Another solid Young Bond story. This time James is following the clues to find a missing mathematics professor. All the boys help with this one - Perry ventures with James to Trinity College, Pritpal and the rest of the boys help to solve the crossword clues and puzzles the professor has set and Red Kelly makes another appearance - this time with his sister Kelly Kelly (seriously). I love crosswords so it was fun seeing them all work together to solve the clues. The historical aspect of the appearance by Alan Turing was also interesting and enjoyable. Especially because I recognised the name. Yay for my genius. The action was exciting and fast paced - James doggedly follows the clues to find the professor - even as he gets beaten and drugged and chased and all number of things. The mystery was interesting and has a few twists that I didn't see coming. Overall another solid Young Bond story to add to the series. 4 stars. ( )

Third one in series read for the VPRC. In this book, James and his friends must try to solve the riddles in a cryptic letter that one of the teachers (who has disappeared) has written to Prital, James' mess mate at Eton. Once again the book is set in the 1930s with James encountering shadowy Lords, sinister looking henchmen, illegal casinos, tramps in graveyards and meeting up again with Red Kelly from the first book in the series, Silverfin.
I found this one more satisfying to read than the first because the plot line is more believable and there is the narrative of James and the other boys trying to solve the cryptic clues in the letter running the whole way through the novel. ( )

This was an exciting book for James Bond. He had to go through all these tasks in order to stay alive. I'm glad Charlie Higson keeps his life exciting because I stay in the book and I read more for my class. ( )

The year is 1933, and the atmospherics, from the spires of Cambridge to an abandoned railway underneath the slums of London, are very well done. A series with a high I.Q.
