Mirabai is iemand die geleefd heeft. Ze is opgegroeid in de jaren ’70, niet in een eenduidig geloofssysteem maar in een ‘het beste van alle tradities’ Op 14-jarige leeftijd is ze uit huis gegaan en ze heeft kinderen geadopteerd in de plaats van zelf gekregen. Eén van die kinderen verloor ze op 11-jarige leeftijd. Daarnaast leefde ze ook nog eens ‘gewoon’ haar leven.
De wijsheid die ze uit dat leven haalde, gecombineerd met al haar ervaringen en opgedane kennis in verband met een vrouwelijke kijk op dingen zoals het christendom, de islam, het soefisme maar ook sjamanisme, de klimaatverandering en politieke onrust zoals de verkiezing van een bepaalde president van Amerika,… maakt dat ze een bron van informatie en inspiratie is. Iemand die echt iets te vertellen heeft. Maakt dat dan ineens een immens goede schrijfster van haar? Dat ook weer niet (zie bijvoorbeeld al de titel en meerdere ondertitels).
Maar als je dit boek leest voor de inhoud geeft dat niet, het draait meer om de inhoud dan om de vorm, en inhoud is er volop.
Ongetemde wijsheid is onderverdeeld in hoofdstukken als: onze last afleggen, jezelf omarmen, vergeven,… Per hoofdstuk komt er een kort gedicht, persoonlijke ervaring én wijze vrouwen die bij het thema passen. Als laatste is er ook telkens een passende oefening.
Het toffe is dat je na het lezen van dit boek misschien wel beslist om een soort van regelmatig terugkerende sabbat in te voeren. Niet omdat je joods wil worden maar wel omdat je iets aan je ecologische voetafdruk wil doen. Het mooie is dat dit boek laat zien dat alles kan en mag: je mag combineren, weglaten, toevoegen. Het gaat om jou, of je nu man bent of vrouw. Tof ook dat zelfs onze Belgische Begijnen even aan bod komen.
Een super boeiend boek dat helemaal in lijn is met de tijdsgeest en een opstapje vorm voor het soort wereld waarin ik wil leven. (
