A new year and a new case for Finch  Fischer. When a much loved pillar of the community is found dead in the duck pond early one morning, the village residents are left reeling with shock. Initially deemed a tragic accident it's not until Penny receives a letter from the victim, dated one week before the death, that she begins to suspect a different motive. But with no clues to work with, and the polite but dismissive attitudes from her friend and the police inspector, she eventually admits to letting her imagination run away with her. Then a piece of evidence is found, potentially linking the crime to an incident fifty years in the past and Penny has to resort to subterfuge to bring the suspect into the open. But will she manage to crack the case before they disappear forever? Death at the Duck Pond is book 2 in the cozy mystery series featuring mobile librarian Penny Finch and her rescue pup Fischer. Follow as they sniff out clues and dig up red herrings in the six villages and hamlets that make up Hampsworthy Downs.… (plus d'informations)

I couldn't wait to read another novel in this series and there was not a moment of disappointment. I love the portrayal of librarian Penny Finch, her relationships with her parents, friends, and patrons that visit the bookmobile otherwise termed as a "mobile library" or "library van" by Penny. Both terms are so appropriate for Penny's converted Volkswagen camper van. Her furry companion is a frisky Jack Russell Terrier named Fischer sometimes lovingly called "Fish Face." He's an expert at engaging people with his performance of tricks and a talented dog detective.

No one expected another murder investigation in the New Year but the intrepid sleuthing pair of Penny and Fischer will not let a murder go unsolved as the loss of a community member deserves justice. After all, Penny just spoke to Mrs. Montague the evening prior to her death and she doesn't believe it's an accidental death as per police determination. Mrs. Montague leaves a very special letter with her attorney as a personal request for Penny that is an honor for a librarian to complete a patron's generosity and legacy. Penny's human sleuth partner of retired headmaster Mr. Kelly is also keen to help Penny with the personal request. There was no doubt that Fischer also appreciated Mr. Kelly's enthusiasm for Mr. Kelly's help as it allows Fischer to visit housekeeper Celia Higgins's kitchen.

There are eventful twists to the investigation and completion of the personal request that add interest and appeal for another entertaining read. I can't wait to read what's next for Penny and Fischer Finch. ( )
