If you think you'd like a story about an ex-cop, ​who quit the force to work full time as a food truck chef, and who is secretly asked by his old police Captain to keep an eye out for terrorists rumored to be planning something in his home city of New Orleans in the near future, you might be interested in this book. The Detective, Caleb Rooney, seeks to uncover who might be behind a rumored terrorist attack on his city, New Orleans. Rooney takes on his investigation between working shifts in his food truck, all the while trying to avoid contact with a local street gang who is seeking revenge on him for shooting one of the gang members. Acting with no resources or written authority to act on behalf of police or public safety, he proves to be the only one capable of discovering who is behind the terrorist plot. When he tries to share his findings with the FBI, he's dismissed. Of course, he end up showing up the bumbling FBI, shouts down and insults the Lead FBI Agent during briefings, evades the FBI without penalty when they try to arrest him for interference with a Federal investigation. Only he proves able to determine who's behind the threatened attack, and he's the only one smart enough to identify shooters at the Mardi Gras Parade. After limiting the effect of that attack, he then goes on to prevent the second phase of the terrorist plot, and takes out four small planes as they're taking off to drop explosives on thousands of mourners. While doing all this, he also manages to woo and win the heart of a stunning beauty and convince her to leave her abusive husband. Personally, I couldn't let go of reality that easily, and had trouble digesting the story line. ​ Too far fetched for me. ( )
