When WWI began the US was lacking freighters and a program was established to set up government-supported shipyards. One such yard was the Atlantic Corporation on the Piscataqua River in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. After turning out ten identical ships, the corporation went out of business leaving behind a remarkable community built in a year, originally to house the shipyard workers. That community, Atlantic Heights, is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places and retains its historic character through the interest of the city of Portsmouth, a strong neighborhood association, and its old and new residents. Originally published in 1985 in hardcover, it has been out of print for over 20 years, and now in 2012 is reprinted in paperback. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
