No visitors. No nights spent away from the apartment. No disturbing the other residents, all of whom are rich or famous or both. These are the only rules for Jules Larsen's new job as an apartment sitter at the Bartholomew, one of Manhattan's most high-profile and mysterious buildings. Recently heartbroken and just plain broke, Jules is taken in by the splendor of her surroundings and accepts the terms, ready to leave her past life behind. As she gets to know the residents and staff of the Bartholomew, Jules finds herself drawn to fellow apartment sitter Ingrid, who comfortingly, disturbingly reminds her of the sister she lost eight years ago. When Ingrid confides that the Bartholomew is not what it seems and the dark history hidden beneath its gleaming facade is starting to frighten her, Jules brushes it off as a harmless ghost story, until the next day, when Ingrid disappears. Searching for the truth about Ingrid's disappearance, Jules digs deeper into the Bartholomew's dark past.… (plus d'informations)

What a ride this one was. You know something's going on but you don't know what and when you do, man oh man. Riley Sager can write creepy super well. ( )

I don’t know know where my original review went. All I can find is the dates read. So odd. As was this book if I recall. I’ll have to come back to this with details, but I know it was a good one...it’s Riley Sager!

** Wow! I must admit I’m a bit speechless right now. This story turned into something I totally did not expect, but I loved it. I think final girls is still my favorite, but this is definitely a close second I’m. How much money would it take for you to stay in a place that you supposedly haunted? I guess the answer depends mainly on whether this haunting can actually hurt you. And can you also agree to some crazy rules that will basically alienate you from your friends and family? Secrets, secrets and more secrets...
My grandma always told me that it’s not the dead you need to be afraid of, it’s the living. The dead can’t hurt you, she said. I suppose that’s definitely one opinion... ( )

This is the third Riley Sager book that I've read and I feel like they are all pretty much the same. Dragging and a tad boring for about 65% of the book then it finally picks up and becomes unputdownable. I was definitely intrigued by the story and I did like Jules. I can definitely see how someone in her position would make the choices she did. It was better than a normal thriller in the sense that there were reasonable excuses for why she was making silly choices and doing the wrong thing. I did like the twist at the end. I was not expecting that to be it at all but I have learned to expect something of the sort from Riley Sager which is ultimately what keeps me reading his books. ( )

Returned Kindle version. Got dumber with every page turned. It started out really good and creepy then became a run of the mill story but with stupid people. The only way it could have been worse is if aliens were the ones murdering people. ( )
