Cowboy boots, ice cream, and Christmas are fun! Going to bed early, listening to the teacher, and dominoes, not so much. A new take on a typical autobiography, Stevenson reminisces on the things he thought were fun or no fun when he was younger. I think this would be a cute book to read aloud with kids to show them what people did for fun way back when and see if they can relate to it. This book can be monotonous when read alone, but it does have redeemable qualities. ( )

This book offers a different twist on a biography. Instead of listing facts about his life, the author discusses things he thinks is fun or not fun. Children could relate to the different things and activities the author writes about. ( )

When James Stevenson was young a LONG time ago some things were fun and some things were not. He liked to eat ice cream, ice skate, and play; he even liked some holidays. There were also some things he did not like, such as school, when his parents went on trips without him and some of the other holidays. ( )

The author thinks about and writes for us the fun and not fun aspects of his childhood. This book isn't very exciting, but it does have some fun ideas. This would just be a read aloud book. ( )

I though this was really cute story. It went through a variety of topics that children and adults can relate to. One could use this idea of fun versus no fun to teach the concept of lists and brainstorming (T charts, etc).
