This is an astonishingly gorgeous comic that thrusts you into a beautiful, brutal fantasy setting that made me think of if Kipo and the Age of Wonder Beasts was much darker and grow up.

A royal guard with a complicated family history is escorting their queen to a mysterious place called Isola. The queen is a tiger. The path they travel is dangerous with bandits, spirits, and strange magic. It is also a journey of penance and affection that unfolds over the course of the issues.

Isola is a perfect example of how familar elements can be combined to tell a compelling story with its own originality and uniqueness. While it is relatively action-packed, the slow emotional burn really did a number on me. It's also one of the most visually striking and beautiful comics I've seen in a while.

Isola is an engrossing, warm, inspiring work of high fantasy from acclaimed storytellers Brenden Fletcher and Karl Kerschl. Isola's thematic and aesthetic homages include films like Princess Mononoke and the game Shadow of Colossus but don't let these influences fool you, this an original work of art. And it just might be the best graphic novel I've read all year. The story-telling and world-building is thoughtful....there is just the right amount of intrigue, action, and heartbreak. And the art is amazing.

The Queen of Maar, Olwyn, has had a transformation spell cast on her, a curse that her Captain of the Guard, Rook, is desperate to reverse. It is said that half a world away there is hope, in a place known as Isola, land of the dead... if they can get there alive, without anyone realizing who the cat is!

The story is haunting, heartbreaking, and intense. It's filled with magic and court intrigue and drama. Do not miss ISOLA. ( )

Local comic book store recommended this to me. I was skeptical at first because it isn't quite the snarky action-packed graphic novel that I usually read. Beautiful illustration and an interesting storyline of love, loyalty, and sacrifice. ( )

Apparently I already wanted to read this? But social media sucked me in this time around!
