Romance. Young Adult Fiction. Young Adult Literature. HTML:Mean Girls meets The Taming of the Shrew in this romantic follow-up to Always Never Yours
Cameron Bright's reputation can be summed up in one word: b*tch. It's no surprise she's queen bee at her private L.A. high schoolâ??she's beautiful, talented, and notorious for her brutal honesty. But when she slips up in front of her crush, Andrew, any affection he may have had for her quickly fades. To win him over, Cameron resolves to "tame" herself, much like Shakespeare's infamous shrew, Katherine. If she makes amends with everyone she's ever wronged, Andrew will have to take notice. Thus, Cameron begins her apology tour with Brendan, the guy whose social life she single-handedly destroyed. At first, Brendan isn't so quick to forgive, but slowly he warms to her when they connect over a computer game he's developing. To Cameron's amazement, she actually enjoys hanging out with Brendan; he appreciates her honesty in a way Andrew never did, and she's left wondering: maybe you shouldn't have to compromise who you are for the kind of love you deser… (plus d'informations)

This was an easy summer day book, read across two hours with a delicious pie in the sun in a park listening to the new SSPU album. Love having a "popular girl" main character. Loved the best friends. Loved the romance. Very much enjoyed, but didn't think this added anything particularly novel to the world. ( )

Solid YA romance. Felt as if it were a retelling of Taming of the Shrew...a journey to find yourself, your NICE self. Learning to accept others for who they are and giving second chances. I was surprised to learn that this was actually one of a sort of series. Didn't realize that a couple of characters the reader meets up with were in the previous and future book. I need to go back and read the first and then the third. Definitely one I would recommend. It was a solid story to read after reading a lot of tense realistic fiction. ( )

Not as good as The Rough Draft. I think the narrator is partly to blame. Emma Lysy. Her voice doesn't appeal to me. Though it probably is a good fit with the character of Cameron Bright.

And why on earth is this >10 hours long.

The idea of the novel is good - a self-absorbed, bossy and overbearing young woman meets someone, Brendan - who is so easy in his skin, natural, free from chasing status - that she starts to soften, modify and become someone who discovers what it is to care about someone other than herself!

She is all the better for it and, learning to be herself, she enjoys life more. It's a win win.

As I recall, The Rough Draft is not in the first person - this is entirely first person - so we never get into the head of Brendan. Sadly, it's a boring being entirely in the head of Cameron! Doesn't incline me to read more YA. ( )

Cute transformation story with a sweet romance as part of the story. A few things didn't really add up but it won't matter to most readers. ( )

This was such a fun read and what an amazing character arc! Also it was such a pleasure getting to chat with the authors in a live show on my youtube channel. ( )
