I received a MOBI.file copy of this book from the author through a recent giveaway she had on LibraryThing and the following is my honest opinion.
My inner-child loves to read about Tovi and all of his friends, and can’t wait to read about their next adventures. Whether they’re just having fun at the seashore, trick or treating on Halloween, I enjoy how they’re able to have or create their own fun. What’s even more enjoyable is when they’re on a trip to a different city/country other than the area they live in, like London or Paris, because each trip is an educational one for its young readers where they learn a little bit about the sites and possibly the culture there.
This time the author, Janina Rossiter, takes Tovi to see his friend Tom who lives in to the Emerald Isle, known as Ireland. Once there, Tom gives him a gift of a golden horseshoe which inspires Tovi to see the Irish Derby where his horse win and in addition to his winnings he gets a gift from the jockey of three coins each with a shamrock on it.
Naturally, being it Saint Patrick’s Day, there’s a parade he wants to see and along the way he meets a man with a harp, and some traditional Irish dancers from whom he gets a small gift and he gives them one of his coins [lesson about sharing]. And what would a trip to Ireland be like for Tovi if he doesn’t encounter a rainbow, a leprechaun and his pot of gold, which he does at the end, and now has three wishes to show for his lucky trip there. His readers are left with a query of what they would wish for if they were Tovi.
For giving my inner-child her readers another imaginative story about Tovi the Penguin with perfectly matched illustrations [drawn by the author] I’ve give Ms. Rossiter 5 STAR for her endeavor here. ( )
