One of the first times in a long while I've read a book, cover to cover within 24 hours... ( )

Well where to start with this one – with a great big Thank You Caroline, my readers block has been well and truly banished now thanks to this beaut of a book 😍 The only criticism I can give is in relation to the wait we all now face for the next instalment in the Amy Winters series!!

There is nothing I like better than a strong female serial killer (I’m still taking notes for my ex-hubby, so if he ever turns up murdered this could will turn out to be evidence! 😂😂 No note takings from this particular book though may I add!!!) And Lillian Grimes is most definitely a strong, fascinating character who’s crimes are atrocious, depraved and sadly completely believable.

DI Amy Winter is the best strong female lead character in this genre I have come across so far this year by a mile. Being of short stature helps as I know what that can be like in a predominantly male workplace and she uses it to her advantage perfectly. Never underestimate the vertically challenged people!

It is a strong subversive plot right from the very first page to the very last with some very slick plot twists. At first you think you have it all worked out and what the twist will be, and I will say I wasn’t even disappointed when I thought I had worked it out by the middle of the book, it wouldn’t have detracted my enjoyment at all, but then, Nope, my theory was blown straight out the water forcing a re-evaluation of the situation! There are a few moments like that and as for the ending – Well that was a phenomenal little surprise twist!

As I said from the start the only negative thing from this book is the wait for the second instalment of the series! I cant wait to see where Amy goes from here but where ever it is I think she will have a huge amount of fans following her every step of the way!

If you are a fan of the crime/thriller genre then you wont want to miss this one. If you enjoyed Chelsea Cain’s Archie and Gretchen series you are going to love this I promise 👍🏻 ( )

Every once in a while I'll see a book listed on Kindle Unlimited that piques my interest. I think this one came up on an email from Audible (or some other newsletter I subscribe to) and when I saw I could take advantage of the read/listen for free option, I figured I had nothing to lose.

I hadn't heard of Caroline Mitchell before but I'm always on the the lookout for new authors to try. I'm glad I gave this one a shot. I was drawn in quickly and, while I didn't agree with all of Amy's choices, I could go along with them given the circumstances she found herself.

As a matter of fact, it wasn't until the last several chapters that things started moving into the area of having to suspend disbelief. And when we moved into that zone, there was a lot to overlook because it got to be a bit much toward the very end.

Even with the BS moments and unlikely situations, I still really liked this book. I'm looking forward to reading another by the author. ( )

I was not disappointed in this book. Caroline Mitchell delivers a fast paced thriller with the debut of DI Amy Winter. Amy is the daughter of a cop and becomes a police officer herself, heading a team that investigates high profile crimes. When one half of serial killer pair contacts her, everything she knows changes. Investigating both a kidnapping of a 15-year old girl and digging up bodies of long ago buried victims, Amy struggles with coming to terms with who she is. ( )
