I just didn't really like the main character of this story. The love interest was nice, but their connection just felt lacking to me I don't know. Overall this story just wasn't for me. It wasn't bad though either just kind of mediocre. The theme of not knowing what you want to do with your life was pretty much fine, but... I don't know. I didn't like how the bakery burned down and then everything after that moved too fast when that seems like it should have been kind of a HUGE deal and all things considered they all moved past that pretty quickly. I just wasn't terribly impressed. ( )

"Bloom" is super sweet and soft, like a giant blueberry muffin! All the pieces fit together so well: the blue teal color palette, the coming of age/love story/family plot, and the lovable characters. Hector was by far my favorite, but nearly everyone in here (except Cameron, screw him) really lit up the pages. I also really appreciated the baking details that were included, even just simple things like mentioning laminating the croissant dough made me know that the author really knew what he was talking about.
Would definitely recommend "Bloom" as a tender, funny, heart-warming graphic novel! ( )

I was liking it OK until about page 264, when Ari acts weirdly immature. Then the bakery immediately burns down (it's ~symbolic~ and very heavy-handed) and a bunch of other plot happens in a rush, and it lost a star. Not bad, but meh. ( )

Gorgeous, atmospheric art and a lot of nuance. I wish the resolution had been a little less pat, but still a strong debut. ( )
