This book presents very basic facts about cats (e.g., they can run, they cannot crow, etc.), each time posed as a question so that children can answer it themselves before turning the page to see if they are correct. There isn't really a plot, but the repetition of words make this title a good choice for just beginning readers or as a readaloud with very young audiences (i.e., preschoolers).
The illustrations are in that collage sort of style that is instantly recognizable as Eric Carle. Front and back matter include some helpful hints for early readers, such as a list of sight words and prompts to think of other words that rhyme with cat. ( )
