The true story of the people who sewed up the first rainbow flags for San Francisco's Gay Pride Parade. This flag has become a worldwide symbol for gay pride.

How can I not love this book. It literally has a glittery, sparkling rainbow flag on the front and back covers. It was bound to be fabulous, as the word used in the book indicates. I met the author of this book and so it made it a little more important to read and to understand the meaning behind it. It isn't so much that it's a 'feel good' book, just that it's a celebration of being who you are, being proud, and the man who created an iconic and glorious modern 'freedom' flag. As George Takei states: It's Okay to be Takei! (

This is the story of how the rainbow flag came to symbolize the LGBTQ community. Gilbert was born at a time that gay people were not shown tolerance, luckily he landed in a city that did. He was a friend to Harvey Milk and helped create the universal symbol of Gay pride. (
