The meat of this book is a long extensive interview with Alan Moore taking us from his childhood and through his career, up until the current state-of-play in 2008. (The bulk of the interview was conducted for the previous 2002 edition and there is an extra chapter bringing it up to date.) All stages of his career are discussed in detail with many examples of both well-known and more obscure works. There are also lots of extras which really make this a great read, some unpublished - comic strips, scripts, photos and even an early short prose story from when he was just 17. There is also a detailed bibliography of his work and some short tribute strips contributed by collaborators and associates. (e.g. Neil Gaiman, Kevin O'Neill etc.)

I've always enjoyed reading interview books with Alan Moore and this is one of the best. Excellent. ( )

The end of February was a time for me to give up things, like pretending that I was enjoying the format of this biographical tribute to Alan Moore. Khoury takes interviews, Moore juvenalia, and artist-tributes, and pieces them into...this.

I enjoy Alan Moore's comics, but I can't say I'm a diehard fan, until recently when I read Tom Strong comics, I'd only read his popular hits, I had no idea of the variety, or the depth, of his other work.

This book may appeal to a big fan, but I quickly got tired of it. The interviews needed editing, the conversations went all over the place and never to the kind of depth I was looking for. The inclusion of some early writing and art by Moore either overstayed its welcome or was presented with little explanation or context.

This book is for people who need a cult of personality, I just wanted to know more about an interesting writer. ( )

An extended interview, but probably the closest we're going to get to an autobiography of the man the mainstream has unaccountably been unable to identify as the finest writer of imaginative fiction working in the English language. -Plus, it's hilarious! Check out his top five tips for would-be comics writers. "1: Don't. 2: No, really don't. 3: DEFINITELY don't – I mean it. 4: Whatever you might be imagining about a life of writing, it's not like that. 5: OK, if you're going to anyway, if you're going to be a writer of any quality, you will have to..." –Nope! Read it for yourself! ;p Unmissable. ( )
