This updated edition shows the current status of the many sided activity of the widely acclaimed "Betz Architects" firm, which was founded by Bea and Walther Betz in Munich. For the most part unmoved by trends, from their early work to their latest projects, they have created buildings which have always stressed atmospheric qualities in order to convey the sensuousness of the architecture to the building owners and the tenants. Building sections arranged around a core area often form a structure shaped by functional considerations, with a mostly irregular ground plan consolidated by large, clear surfaces which at the same time give it character. This principal is combined with striking building forms in architecture of self conscious gesture. The main headquarters complex of the Hypo-Bank has become their best known building and a Munich trademark. A low building and apparently floating high-rise unit are combined with the striking supply towers in an expressive company portrait. In addition to other office and administrative buildings, like the German Embassy in London, school and university buildings, but also residential homes und complexes and cultural centers, like the resort in Bad Reichenhall, are among the main fields of work of the manifoldly outstanding firm.
