I thoroughly enjoyed this book because it focuses on different periods of time from a child's perspective. It also touches on topics such as the work children did, the clothes they wore and activities they participated in. Each section highlighted a child from the time period as well as included details relevant to the excerpt. I found this book to be very informational and has a topic of interest for everyone. I also enjoyed the timeline at the end of the book and the glossary as well. I think that these components are often included in nonfiction children's books, but the timeline was well thought out and wonderfully illustrated. I would love to share this book with my class. ( )

Hm.  Great concept.  Presented in the format of an Eyewitness (tm) book though, which is not effective for me.  I guess historical fiction works better.  The biggest problem that I have with it, though, is that there is no bibliography, no list of recommended reading or related resources. ( )

This book provides an overview of historical periods and events written in an age-appropriate way for children, without being too simplified. It covers a lot of ground in just 57 pages (save the timeline) and focuses on specific children from many eras throughout history. Some are well known, such as Anne Frank, and others are not, such as Egil Skallgrimsson, a Viking boy. This would be best if used within a World History class, which would provide further context. This book is a great book about history throught the experiences of children from the past. It makes whatever child reading this book able to put themselves into the story and real life situations that happened throughout history. I like this book because it not only cover American history, but highlights important historic moments around the world as well. There are lots of pictures, fun facts, and side stories that attribute to the overall positive notes of this book. I think it would be an excellent book to base a class project off of, where you could let each student pick a topic to research. ( )
