2 CHILDREN FOR SALE The sign is a last resort. It sits on a farmhouse porch in 1931, but could be found anywhere in an era of breadlines, bank runs and broken dreams. It could have been written by any mother facing impossible choices. For struggling reporter Ellis Reed, the gut-wrenching scene evokes memories of his family's dark past. He snaps a photograph of the children, not meant for publication. But when it leads to his big break, the consequences are more devastating than he ever imagined. At the paper, Lillian Palmer is haunted by her role in all that happened. She is far too familiar with the heartbreak of children deemed unwanted. As the bonds of motherhood are tested, she and Ellis must decide how much they are willing to risk to mend a fractured family. Inspired by an actual newspaper photograph that stunned the nation, Sold on a Monday is a powerful novel of love, redemption, and the unexpected paths that bring us home.… (plus d'informations)

slow read

Was a bit of a slow read but could be because I am used to action packed books. Thought it was a true story ( )

I really enjoyed this book...the way it is written, I really could picture everything so clearly, like I was watching a movie. Great story, wonderful characters. ( )

Set during the Great Depression, this novel begins with a newspaper reporter taking a picture of two children with a sign advertising their sale. This story expands when the reporter discovers the value of this picture and takes another of two children with the same sign for his newspaper. What follows is a very long journey to reunite the sold children with their biological mother. He is aided in this pursuit by a woman also working at the newspaper and the single mother to a son.

I was somewhat disappointed that the story did not cover more descriptions of life during that tumultuous time in American history, which included Prohibition, the Lindbergh baby kidnapping, FDR's candidacy for president and the effects of the Great Depression on so much of the population. ( )
