A great looking book. ( ) In the late 1970s, there was a movement to push for the colonisation of outer space, through the building of huge space habitats at the Lagrange points in the Earth - Moon system (points of gravitational stability). The main protagonist of this idea was Dr. Gerard K. O'Neill of Princetown University. This book is an unusual take on the idea. The argument was that there was enough space for every sort of society that wished to set up on its own to have its own colony. This book emerged from the West Coast of the USA, and is essentially space colonisation from the hippie perspective. If you've ever seen the film 'Silent Running', you'll know where these people were coming from. Sadly, the idea of space colonisation has been lost as governments the world over have decided that space is too expensive for uppity taxpayers to stomach any expenditure on; and the whole colony idea is difficult to sell commercially, even to the obscenely rich. The future was different thirty years ago... aucune critique | ajouter une critique
