I'll admit, when I started to read this book, I was not a fan. Most books have some order to them, but this book had words everywhere! It had me turning my head to read properly. Then I got to the part about how his father ask how things are with her mom, and then I realized what direction the book was going in. This book is truly about a family growing after a divorce, and something old turned into something new. I actually ended up really loving this book and the illustrations. It even has a mash potato recipe in the back of the book, which would be fun to do a lesson to do with my students! ( )

This book is a good read. This book is about a young girl forming a bond by planting potatoes. The Mom and the Dad are to together, so it is showing us how a dad can build his relationship with his daughter even when the parents are living in different homes. I love how colorful the book is. I also love how most words are in a form of a potato. Very good book for kids who are in single-parent homes. ( )

A little boy is spending time with his dad and comes across two old potatoes. When his dad sees him about to throw them away he informs his son that they can grow new potatoes with the old ones. They plant them together and talk about the boys new room at his moms house. After a while to the little boys surprised fresh new potatoes where growing from the ground just like his dad said. They pick the potatoes together and then make them into the little boys favorite mashed potatoes. At the end of the book they leave a recipe for the mashed potatoes. ( )

At his dad's house, a boy finds two old potatoes growing sprouts out of their eyes, but his dad stops him from throwing them away; instead, they consult the boy's grandfather for advice, and plant the potatoes to make more. After a lot of waiting and caretaking, they harvest their new potatoes and there is a recipe for mashed potatoes at the end.

The style of art reminds me a bit of magazine cutouts; some of the text is incorporated into the images. ( )

Fun spin on a father daughter relationship continuing to build even after a divorce. The potato is a creative story with creative pictures almost like a
Scrapbook; and at times can be distracting to read for an emerging learning trying to gain proficiency. ( )
