In the 21st century and we're still stuck on this age-gap troupe?! She's in high school, sir! Entertaining and funny at times, but the ten-year age difference between the two leads my mind to wander and ultimately dampens my enthusiasm for the manga. I wish that instead of a 16-year-old high school student, the main character have been a college student, or at the very least 18/19 years old. I find the age difference unsettling, despite the mangaka's best efforts to downplay it. Hmmm, I will keep reading this and see where it goes. I'm not sure how to feel about this. In one way, stuff like this is my guilty pleasure (Age gaps, asshole men only in fiction) but what is not my guilty pleasure is mixing teens with adults. Yes, I know it's fiction but it still doesn't sit well with me. Honestly, it wouldn't have made too much of a difference if the author made Hana 18. The story seems interesting enough aside from that, so I'll probably give it a second go. A 26-year-old should not be romantically interested in a high schooler. I hate when shoujo(s) have these weird-behind age differences. I can't root for y'all if it's gross. Good that the author constantly brings it up, and Hana isn't impressed by Takane's age or money. With that obvious squicky-ness aside, this is the cheesy junk I live for! I love arrogant, cocky (and smug!) characters that aren't as cool as they think they are with hearts of gold. I also love a shoujo lead that isn't a total ditz who is quick with the comebacks. I like Takane and Hana so much. ;__; And them one-upping each other is fun. I can't stand this manga for making me love these two characters. Lowkey/highkey it would be just as good without the age difference. Takane could've just been a young prodigy trying to take over the company *shrug* Yes, I'm aware age of consent/respectable dating age differs from different countries and cultures, but from a Western view, it's still a bit uncomfortable. Still, I already got the first 8 volumes from the library, so I guess I will be reading it. This is one of those manga series that irks the hell out of me because it is so well done that I want to read more despite being offended by the central concept. A 26-year-old businessman dating a 16-year-old school girl is pretty much the epitome of creepy, and yet I like the feisty personalities and the combative relationship. If the book were about a 36-year-old businessman and a 26-year-old college graduate I'd be pretty blissed out right now. Seriously, the same week I read this, a 26-year-old local weatherman was fired when it was revealed he was dating and sexting 16-year-olds. It's not illegal, but everyone is bugging over the inappropriateness of it. I'm probably going to read the next volume, but I'm going to hate myself for it. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

Takane is 26, but acts more like he's 16.
Hana is 16, but acts more like she's 26.
This isn't VERY far removed from the teacher/student manga I read as a teen - and honestly if this was a fantasy manga I wouldn't even think twice about it (well maybe I would, but just barely). Its just so OBVIOUS he's a business man and she's a high school student so its hard to be like KISS HIM THAT'S RIGHT SHOW HIM HOW TO PROPERLY KISS.
But I'm a devoted CLAMP lover and they certainly have had far...bigger age differences...relationships :cough Terada and Sasaki cough:, though much like that one this isn't shown as a sexual relationship. The two clearly find each other intriguing and diverting, and have affection for the other, but so far it seems closer to kindred spirits then Romance exactly. In fact the short side 4koma comics show just how LITTLE the two think of each other that way right now.
Other wise this is a fairly typical shoujo. I like the art - Shiwasu's style is pretty and charming with Takane being attractive and Hana being cute. I like that Hana's two friends are super excited to be NAMED in the third chapter and Takane is very much look at my actions not my words kind of feeler.
I'll continue on with this, because I want to see if it strays into the other typical shoujo motifs or if it remains light hearted and fun. ( )
