Sarah and Eddie spend one week together, and they fall in love. And then he disappears - he doesn't answer his phone calls or acknowledge text messages. The story is fairly maudlin at this point, but later - when we get more of the back story - it turns more interesting. By the end, I was feeling gratified at the outcome, which I wouldn't have expected at page 50, when I considered stopping reading. Still, it was uneven. Since it was a debut novel, the author certainly has room to improve. ( )

3.5 stars. Many plot twist but got bogged down in the middle. ( )

This was BORING. Such a sad waste of a good premise. Someone bug me to go write my own book with this premise that's a million times better because such a good premise needs a good book, but alas!

I got through maybe 40 pages in an hour one day, perpetually being distracted by my phone and birds and reddit, and then decided to give up. But I wanted to know what happened, so I tried to read the last chapter, and was confused. I tried to read a few chapters earlier, and become more confused. Because this plot is based around some series of crazy coincidences that I did not buy.

So I went through and skimmed, intending on only figuring out the plot... but I had to skim the entire book because it was so very convoluted with side characters and various settings and jetting off and random sightings and many checked phones. And I came to the ending, and ???? Just ?????? Those are my emotions. ?????

Not for me, and not recommended. It's been a while since I've outright felt like a book wasted my time like this. ( )

The great reverse Kindle TBR clearout continues! I was put off reading this - for four years! - by a negative review on Goodreads, but eventually (and methodically) took the plunge, and was pleasantly surprised. Yes, it's basically moody chick lit, yes, the twists felt a little forced, but I honestly couldn't stop reading.

Sarah Mackey returns to her home town from a broken marriage in California and falls in love with a stranger called Eddie. They spend a glorious seven days together and Sarah thinks she has found her perfect match - until they go their separate ways and she never hears from him again. Like a lovesick teenager, she just can't accept that he would drop her, and drives her friends mad with mood swings and cyberstalking. Should she let him go, or is there more to Eddie David than Sarah is prepared for?

I guessed the connection between Sarah and Eddie early on, and wasn't surprised when the author flipped the story - effective, but not entirely believable. And I couldn't swallow the second spin on events at all, sorry. I think I'm just too much of a cynic! Apart from the shock tactics, however, I grew to like Sarah, even while she was going through a midlife meltdown - yes, her hormonal behaviour over a man she knew for precisely a week, and didn't actually know at all in the end, was pathetic but she - and everyone around her - acknowledges her problem. I laughed, I cringed, I rolled my eyes, and kept turning the page!

There is a bit of a drama overload - Sarah and Eddie, but also friends having affairs, exes starting new romances, parental burdens, pregnancy and infertility - and the twists in the tale creak under the strain on occasion, but the first person narration sounded natural (win!) and the flashbacks to The Week With Eddie were cute on the whole.
