Simply put, this is the more 'kosher' version of Henny Penny, nothing bad truly happens, the twist is cut out for a cuter more wholesome ending. While this appeals to some, I was not really one of them. This feels like the book someone made to undo the "unhappy ending" of the other Henny Penny, only without the complex designs or as much popping characters.

Not bad, but not great, just good or okay. ( )

In French's version of this classic story, Henny Penny and her friends run to tell the king that the sky is falling. They are captured by Foxy Loxy but escape him by promising him a surprise and lulling him to sleep. This story is similar to "Chicken Little." ( )

This seems to be the original "Chicken Little" but with different names for the animals. This is a fantasy book. The animals believe that the sky is falling and the must tell the king. This book is very repetitive with the names of the animals which I think the children will be fond of. The plot didn't seem very developed. The animals were just gathered one-by-one and all went to tell the king that the sky is falling. ( )

Henny Penny is a parable of the the classic Chicken Little story where the titular bird believes the sky is falling after an acorn lands on her head. Enlisting the help of friends Ducky Lucky, Cocky Locky, Goosey Loosey and Turkey Lurkey, the five fowl friends embark on an odyssey to see the King when they cross paths with Foxy Loxy. Foxy invites them into his home for a meal when Henny realizes their surroundings with feathers, bones and boiling water all around the guests and begins to fear for their safety. Offering to clean his room, Foxy takes a nap while the visitors straighten up and tiptoe out. Narrowly escaping with their feathers intact, the birds celebrate their good fortune by enjoying some corn cake and opt to tell the King another day.
There is no mention of citation or citation of the original source for the folktale. The plot is simple and direct and will be enjoyed by students in grades K-2. The language is lively and engaging and in keeping with the oral tradition. This is a trickster tale with lively and engaging illustrations. ( )
