Stephen is a doctor, a practical man who wishes his sister wouldn't worry so about the pirates that plague their island home. So it's ironic that Stephen himself is set upon by just those pirates, who carry him off to heal their wounded captain. John is a pirate Captain, master of his fate, and used to getting what he wants. And he decides he wants Stephen, even when the good doctor wants nothing more than to run away from him. Can the beast convince the doctor the sailors call the butcher to stay with him?… (plus d'informations)

3.75 Hearts--A Sean Michael readable story that didn't make my brain seep through my ear.

This is actually a higher rated Sean Michael from me. Guess why...there was a plot. Not a strong one but it was there!
"You have such passion hidden beneath that very thin layer of civilization."
"You know nothing of me. Nothing."
"And I have all the time in the world to prove to you that I do indeed know you."

Now Sean Michael or SM and I, we have like this love-hate relationship see. It's a long standing one where I feel he just has a barrel of prompts and another for names and he picks whatever is on top and goes for it. Not knocking him, the formula works right because we're buying it.

I had to take a hiatus from him. It's been nine months since I read my last SM. I broke my abstinence for pirates. I'm weak for swashbucklers. The thing is, I did not regret my choice.

Don't expect real pirating in this book. This is Sean Michael we're talking about here.

[THERE'S A PANTSLESS PIRATE IMAGE AT THIS POINT. NOT GR FRIENDLY...BUT IT IS ON THE BLOG]

Plot schmlot when there's needing and aching to be done. This is a about pirate captain jizz wizard named John aka "Beast"that comes buckets for his virgin, straight doctor who he affectionately nicknames, "Butcher".

I'm telling you Sean Michael was playing the role of Beast to my Butcher. He was such a horny son of a gun. He wore the feisty Butcher down until he just gave in to "needing" and "aching" and sexing. The novella isn't pure sex. I repeat the sexing doesn't start until after 70% mark.

I thought I was getting punked at first when I didn't read nothing but kisses by the 60%.

A Sean Michael where the lusty one held out from filling that needy hole with his massive monster dong until 3/4 of the book?!

And the virgin one...had actual thoughts and spoke in coherent sentences?!!

AND DIDN'T GIVE IN TO BUTTSEX ON THE FIRST DAY?! THE PIRATE WANTED TO WAIT UNTIL THE VIRGIN BEGGED HIM?!!!

And get this... there was humor. Good humor. I wasn't laughing at the characters but with them.

"Well, you obviously don't suffer from an excess if bodily humors."
"What?" Was the man saying he wasn't impressive? He was.
"Humors? Blood, seed--you seem to lose them at a rate that would impress a leech."

I nearly forgot this was a SM book for a second.

Then SM remembered his normal script a la:

"John. I ache."
"I will ease your ache for you. I would not leave you needing, wanting."
"You...it is as if you would devour me."
"Yes, I wish to consume all of you."

And it was good. I liked the characters. There wasn't much world building (go figure), this really didn't read "historical" though it was set in I guess Earth. A manly bodice ripper...wait, a breeches ripper.

I liked it...a lot. Oh dear, I've returned to the Sean Michael Warped Zone.

But the return wasn't bad at all.

Doctor Stephen Grey is kidnapped and taken to treat a pirate captain, John, on board his ship. But after the doctor patches him up the captain decides he wants to keep this pretty young doctor as a bed-warmer, whether the doctor wants to be kept or not.

Sean Michael is an excellent writer but the consent issues in this book mean that it's not my favourite of his. This isn't just playing with consent and even though it ends up all fine and dandy I would classify most of the sex in this book as rape, which just isn't something I'm looking for in my average gay romance.

Still, the story is eminently readable and the sex is hot. ( )

I just finished to read "The Butcher and the Beast" by Sean Michael. Thanks to Mychael Black for the advice.

It is a short novel (for me, all under the 200 pages is short...) but very intensive. A story of seduction, of passion that win over conventions.

And old story indeed, like those of Rodolfo Valentino in the role of the Sheick, when he seduced a maiden. Here we have a Pirate, a strong, old style pirate, that prefer men over women, that like a bit of rough over gentleness.

But also we have a Pirate that, when the butcher's love is give freely, become the true lover.

And the Butcher is an debauche angel, a man that never has experience love nor passion, and suddendly he find first passion and later on love.

Another pirate story! This time, a Captain is in need of a new "butcher," or doctor for his ship. His men kidnap Dr. Grey from his home. Dr. Grey is resistent at first, but soon finds life on ship more appealing than his old life, and Captain John still more appealing. A solid, hot little story. Recommended. ( )
